POSITION PURPOSE:

The CDL Driver role requires the individual to conduct proper pre and post trip inspections of their vehicle, while applying their knowledge to ensure safe and effective loading and unloading. The individual is also expected to be conversant with vehicle equipment like yard trucks, straight trucks, tractors, and trailers. The Delivery Driver's job involves being diligent enough to check documentation for accuracy and completeness, ensuring orders are delivered with the correct number of cases, and deploying equipment like load bars, ramps, pallet jacks, and other such devices to aid in safe unloading. Careful adherence to DOT guidelines and local, state and federal regulations as it concerns driving safely and delivering on schedule is of great importance. Professional communication with customers and vendors is also a key aspect of the role.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Gather the necessary paperwork, including the assigned truck and trailer, as well as instructions for the intended route.
• Draft a written report for the post-trip inspection of all equipment, highlighting any issues noticed with the tractor and/or trailer.
• Make sure to conduct thorough inspections of all units that will be operated before, during, and after trips, following DOT and FMCSA guidelines of regulation 49 C.F.R. § 396.11.
• Confirm that the load is heading to the correct location and that it is the intended destination.
• Connect the trailer to the tractor, but not before inspecting the fifth wheel plate and ensuring that the locking mechanism is properly engaged.
• Ensure that the weight of the trailer, number of axles/tandems, and the state rules are considered when determining the scaling load. If required, re-distribute the load to maintain appropriate weight distribution.
• Stick to the itinerary and ensure that all the items are delivered and picked up as per the requirement of each store.
• Carry out complete store cleanup as per the contracted terms. Gather and load several items (such as surplus supplies, returns, compost, packages, bundled goods, and egg holders) to return them to the distribution center as necessary.
• Highlight any ongoing weather conditions that could potentially pose a threat to safe travel.
• It is vital to ensure that all goods are safely secured during transportation.
• Verify that all paperwork is filled out correctly and that temperature guidelines are followed.
• Ensure adherence to DOT and FMCSA guidelines related to accurate documentation of hours of service by using an ELD.
• Make sure to report to work according to your schedule and be ready to take on your assigned route/routes with energy and focus.
• The DVIR must be used by the driver to document any defects or concerns with the truck/tractor and/or trailer.

It encompasses various safety training activities, and knowledge of tactics that aid in identifying hazardous and other unwanted driving situations, irrespective of other drivers' shortcomings or harsh weather conditions. The practices include maintaining proper distances, managing driving speed and being aware of other motorists, making efficient use of mirrors and signaling when necessary.
• One must have the skillset to analyze, identify the cause, and rank the solutions when dealing with any problem-solving situation.
• One should possess knowledge of pallet jacks and expertise in maneuvering them safely to prevent any hazardous situation.

• Make use of ramps and stairs to embark or disembark from the tractor or trailer.
• Able to lift roughly 35 pounds on a consistent basis.
• The person must possess the strength to lift up to 100 pounds occasionally.
• Capable of operating electric or hand-powered pallet jacks to handle pallets weighing around 3000 lbs.
• Being capable of performing tasks that require crawling, crouching, kneeling, or stooping.
• Retrieve boxes from stacks that are as high as six feet by extending your arms above your head and unloading.

• To ensure safety, utilize personal protective equipment like steel toe boots and close-toed slip-resistant shoes.
